Cave Baby

Cave Baby

Illustrated by Emily Gravett

Cave Baby’s lucky – he lives inside a cave
With his mum (who’s good at painting) and his dad (who’s very brave)
And a sabre-toothed tiger, a hyena and a hare
And a grey woolly mammoth and a big brown bear.

But what will happen when a real woolly mammoth takes Cave Baby for a midnight ride?

“An exuberant, rhyming text matched by equally lively illustrations makes this a romp of a bedtime story.”  The Guardian

“an appealing and sensitive fable about the uses of creativity and dreams.” The Telegraph

I’ve always been an admirer of Emily Gravett, who normally writes her own stories as well as illustrating them. I was delighted when she made an exception and drew the wonderful pictures for Cave Baby. The night-time scenes are so atmospheric, and Emily has turned the baby’s parents into great comic characters.

I wrote a song to go with the book, and you can see Malcolm and me singing it here. Or you can listen to a more professional version of the song on streaming platforms such as Spotify.
